Projects - Pentagonal Arbor

Subcontracting to Farrell and Company Timber Frames, Rulo designed, layed out and cut this five sided arbor and the pergolas. The frame is Douglas Fir coated with a bleaching oil. This was my first shot at a complex frame where it was all on me. I really enjoyed the challenge. I first went to the computer and worked with CAD to get the two dimensional plan view and elevation drawings, from there I used a calculator to work out all the angles and dimensions for the frame work, and then into the shop where I checked my layout numerous times and often. Once you hit the trigger of the saw, you better be right. The pentagon turned out great and my confidence got a big boost. Since then, I have cut many compound roof systems and try to involve them in my projects as much as possible.
